Day 6: Haus des Meeres - Aqua Terra Zoo

Translated "House of the Sea," this aquarium had 10+ floors of sea creatures and wildlife that live near the sea. James LOVED it!
We went on a rainy Sunday and it seemed like everyone else with kids in Vienna had the same idea to go. So to avoid some of the crowd, we took the elevator to the top floor and worked our way down. I haven't mentioned yet, but we intended to bring our stroller in addition to the Ergo carrier that we borrowed from a gracious friend. When we were being dropped off at the Pittsburgh airport (by another awesome friend!) I suddenly realized that we forgot the stroller! So Nathan did a lot of carrying James and James did a lot of sleeping on Nathan, but we managed. However, going to the Haus des Meeres was one example of when it was better not to have it. This building didn't have a lot of open space and there is no way we could have waited for the ONE elevator to go down just one flight of stairs.
The top floor had a great view of Vienna.
Unfortunately, I can't remember (maybe Tim or Marina can help me) what James kept saying throughout the aquarium. It was either "no" or "WOW." Probably some of both as you can see in the pictures below.

This was a very interesting display of leaf cutter ants. In several places it was the handrail, but it curved through a couple of floors and finally we saw where they were getting all the leafs. Neat, but it still gave me the chills to look at.
James really liked going in this viewing bubble. But he was more interesting in seeing us then the fish. :)

Lastly, there was a tank of fish you could touch. James liked splashing in the water and I think he managed to get a feel of a fish or two.
