Recovery Day and Busy Day (part 1)

Day 10: Recovery Day

We didn't have any set plans for the day other then finally returning the car seat we rented for the weekend. But we soon realized that we would need the car seat again in just two days so we decided to avoid the hassel of getting it again and returning it, again. So instead we took the U-Bahn to Kettenbruckengasse (I just like the ridiculously long words and street names. Three or more words are just strung together into one!) and walked around the Naschmarkt. This is an open air market with an abundance of dried fruits, spices, fruits, vegetables, etc. We stocked up on some dried cranberries and strawberries for James and then headed home for our naps. :)

Day 11: Schonbrunn Palace Gardens and Mazes

Tim took this Friday off to hang out with us! We got out as early and quick as our pushed-to-the-limits James would allow (which to Tim, was slow as molasses :). Schonbrunn Palace was the summer home of the emperors and empresses of the Hapsburg family. I'm not a history buff so if you're interested here's more. This palace is magnificent in it's size and beauty. Not just the "home" itself, but it has an entrence courtyard the size of a football field, intricately maintained gardens on each side, and basically a park as big as 2 football fields for the "backyard!" Oh, and you can't forget the zoo off the back right! I have no idea why they needed so much space. We didn't take pictures of all of it, and today, we only spent time outside.

This is just one of the side gardens. You aren't allowed into the center because people would walk in the grass and messed up the stones from being straight lines. So there's a vine-covered path on either side to walk through and this view point at the far end.

The back garden area (see the last picture) had this fountain near the end.

A fun attraction was going through a few mazes and a playground. Apparently I was at fault for getting us lost in the maze, but Nathan found the way and we left Tim behind. :)

The playground had the normal sandbox.

And then this giant flapping bird. You'll just have to watch for yourself!

The second maze we went through was more of a game than a maze. As you walk through you come to a puzzle or task that you have to complete before moving on. The first was a math puzzle.

Then a set of three climbing polls. Here are the boys' attempts.

The afternoon was another fun-filled time! More photos coming soon!
